The Fried Tempura was created by the Portugese, thought it is considered a traditional Japanese dish. The Portugese introduced the fried tempura in the 1600s. The Portugese ate a fried shrimp and called it tempuro, and the Japanese took from that to create tempura. The fried tempura opened a world of pan frying openness to Japan, making it not so rare. Though created and introduced in the 1600s, it wasn't until teh 1800s that tempura resturaunts started popping up, and form there it was considered something that powerful people found acceptable.
Wow! I like the history on this one too, and I'm finding the parterns of the World Chef foods; a lot of them opened up a new variety of cooking to the country that they originated from (sometimes worldwide). So try cooking the Fried Tempura today!
